Only a few kilometres far from Padua and Vicenza, Cittadella is a wonderful walled-in city of medieval origin, as well as favourite DDmag destination. Luisa suggests it today for a little trip out of town. The city is an example of the best preserved defensive system in Europe: surrounded by a wide moat powered by spring waters and city walls, one can enter only through one of the four entrance gate oriented on the basis of the cardinal points and pointed towards Padua (south), Vicenza (west), Bassano (north) and Treviso (east). We suggest you to start the visit from the gardens which embrace the outside part of the walls, then climb up the chemin de ronde [walkways on the battlements] partially accessible. The view outside and inside the city is amazing: from the snow-clad mountains to the Dome and the Municipio [the town hall], browsing even the private gardens of the ancient manors inside the walls…
Cittadella is a real treasure of art, but also a time machine to travel to a thrilling story.
