Globetrotting architect, furniture and design consultant, freelance journalist and a beautiful pillow designer: is Nur Yılmaz Ruppi, our new contributor, (you already knew here), that takes us to his hometown , Istanbul, and introduce to us a really interesting stylist. Ready to read ?
"In 2004 I was living in Barcelona and I returned to Istanbul to meet my friends. My friend Sedef and I were sitting in KIRINTI, a beautiful restaurant in my hometown. Sedef worked as a design consultant and fashion for many international designers, but was working on a new project of his own: she wanted to make her first collection combining technology and traditional Turkish -Ottoman. As a kind of time travel, she wanted to draw the Ottoman sultans struggling with Ipod, smart phone, pc. After three months of... our chat collection OSMAN was made: the shirts and bags printed with portraits of the sultans who listened to music from the iPod have been successful, even the international press has noticed her work (BBC world, Elle France, gate - Belgian) Apple has noticed her work and asked Sedef to draw different covers for laptop , so in
2006 she created the first Sedef Calarkan collection for Apple products. but today I want to present to the the DDmag readers her latest collection: in fact after four years of preparation Iznik was born (named after the city where did the beautiful Ottoman ceramics) . Sedef has designed seven models of tunics very comfortable and chic, with a print that recalls the reasons for the famous pottery. "The patterns of these tunics are magical because they can be worn by all women and at any time of the day" says Sedef. Perfect and comfortable during the day with leggings or a pair of jeans, elegant for a evening with stiletto, easy-chic in summer with flip flops or beach wrap nightgowns ... And then there are the tunics decorated with gold, unique handmade as true works of art. Now Sedef is about to open a showroom in Paris where becomes fashion ambassador of artistic and cultural heritage of Turkey, increasingly at the center stage of international fashion and design."
