Il trucco per evitare il mix letale di temperature torride e umidità insopportabile è uscire alle prime ore del giorno. Le domeniche mattina in Lincoln Road sembrano fatte apposta per cogliere la vera essenza della strada, quella che non è possibile percepire nelle ore più trafficate fra turisti, viandanti e gente in giro per negozi. E così ti accorgi dei graffiti su una porta che non avevi mai notato prima, ti ritrovi a comprare prodotti locali al Green Market, e ti si apre un mondo tutto nuovo: frutti come il lychee e la malanga non fanno parte dei tuoi ricordi d’infanzia se sei nato in Italia ed hanno un che di esotico. L'attico del Van Dyke Café è ancora in buono stato e coperto di rampicanti, e le vetrine di Walgreens, il più artistico drugstore di Miami, sono dedicate all'artista locale Alejandro Vigilante (@Vigilanteartist), colui che ha scritto che “L’internet è più popolare della zuppa al pomodoro Campbell”.

È l'ora di lasciarsi alle spalle la spiaggia e dirigersi verso il PAMM (@pamm), il celebre Pérez Art Museum Miami: vista mozzafiato sulla baia di Biscayne, architettura all'avanguardia e una collezione senza precedenti d’arte contemporanea, tutto a portata di mano. È stato definito “la miglior veranda di Miami” e non senza motivo: affacciato sulla baia e sul porto, nel cuore di un brulicante downtown Miami da poco modernizzato, circondato dall'Arsh Center for the Performing Arts e dal American Airlines Arena, che ospita i Miami Heat, potrai non solo apprezzare e respirare la magia dell'arte, ma anche osservare le navi che passano assaporando una limonata.

Per vivere tutta la poesia di un tramonto di Miami Beach hai due opzioni: una ha a che fare con alcool, l’altra con lo shopping. (In fatto di vizi Miami non è seconda a nessuno).
Cosi, puoi andare a piedi fino al The Standard (@standardmiami) e sederti di fronte alla baia sorseggiando un Sun Goddess o prendere l’ascensore del parcheggio che si trova al 1111 di Lincoln Road. Devi fidarti di me e andare al quinto piano. Ti troverai in quello che sembra perlopiù un piano di un parcheggio. Tra macchine, colonne di cemento e specchi, si nasconde The Alchemist (@shop_thealchemist) una delle boutique più ambite al mondo, dove la tua carta di credito non tarderà ad innamorarsi delle collezioni più all’avanguardia della stagione sullo sfondo di un accattivante tramonto di Miami Beach.

Ora di cena: è d'obbligo una sosta al Drunken Dragon, il segreto meglio celato della stagione. Porta nera, nessuna insegna, si trova insospettato accanto a un Subway, la catena di fast food: nessuno andrebbe mai a pensare che al suo interno si nasconde un ristorante dalla luce soffusa, l'unico ad offrire un menu di barbecue coreano a Miami Beach e un’ottima lista di vini.

P.S. Sulla strada di casa puoi concederti un dessert al volo e fermarti al rinomato Ladurée per tre macarons pétale de rose.

A non-usual Sunday in Miami Beach

8 a.m.

The trick to avoid the moment when scorching temperatures meet insane humidity is to go out early. Sunday mornings in Lincoln Road are to catch the real character of the street, the one that during the busiest times of the day with thousands of tourists, wonderers, shoppers and dinner patrons you cannot filter.
You discover a door with a graffiti message never seen before, you can buy locally grown produce at the Green Market, and that opens a whole new world. Fruits like lychee and a tuberous like malanga are not in your childhood memories if you were born in Italy: they sound exotic and when you ask what they are, the farmer from Homestead looks at you with an ironic smile that means ‘another tourist here’.
The penthouse of what used to be known as the Van Dyke building is still in good shape covered by vine and the windows of the most artistic Walgreens in town is dedicated to a local artist, Alejandro Vigilante (@Vigilanteartist), who thinks that ‘Internet is more popular than Campbell soup’.
Grab a coffee @ Starbucks and walk up to the boardwalk where the temptation to dive in the ocean and let your thoughts go away is irresistible. The atmosphere sounds and smells like one typical day in a summer resort chez nous, by that I mean Santa Margherita Ligure, Viareggio or Populonia.

11 a.m.

Time to escape the beach and head over PAMM (@pamm), the Pérez Art Museum Miami. Sweeping views of Biscayne Bay, state-of-the-art architecture, the most magnificent contemporary art collections all your fingertips. It has been defined ‘Miami’s best front porch’ for a reason: overlooking the bay and Miami’s port, right in the middle of a frolicking newly revamped downtown Miami, surrounded by the Arsh Center for the Performing Arts, the American Airlines Arena home of the Heat and the Patricia Frost Science Museum, you not only enjoy and breathe art from the 21st century, but can literally sit and watch the boats go by with a cold lemonade.

3 p.m.

Mandatory no-kidding nap time.

6 p.m.

Two options to choose from for the best sunset in Miami Beach, one involves alcohol and the other shopping. (When it comes to vice Miami always offers the best.)
So you either walk to The Standard and sit by the bay sipping a or you walk up to the 5th floor of the parking garage at 1111 Lincoln Road. You have to trust me in this. Just walk up to the elevator at 1111 Lincoln Road and you first find Babalu, the antithesis to a department store that offers more than one cornered in the most unsuspected real estate in Miami Beach. Über-chic convenience store where to find the most sophisticated fine fragrances in town, by many other one-of-a-kind goodies.
Then you get the elevator and there’s only one button to push that says ‘The Alchemist’ and you get to go into one of the most coveted boutique in the world. Suspended among cement columns, mirrors and your credit card accompanied by the most iconic Miami Beach sunsets.

9 p.m.

Time for dinner at Drunken Dragon a.k.a. the best kept secret of the season. The door is black, no sign, and it’s in a street-mall next to Subway so you’ll never figure that that a dim lit restaurant with the only Korean barbecue menu at the beach and impeccable personable service is behind it.
P.S. on the way back home you can just grab a few pétale de rose macarons at Ladurée as an on-the-go dessert.
